Dominican Sisters’ College, Abatete, in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria, recently celebrated a significant milestone as it marked its 25th anniversary with the inauguration and opening ceremony of her new Entrepreneurship Building and Workshop on 15 February, 2026.
The memorable event, held at the school pavilion, brought together parents, alumni, well-wishers, clergy, and members of the community in a celebration that highlighted the College’s remarkable journey of academic excellence and character formation.
The celebration began with an anniversary holy mass presided over by Fr. Aloysius Ikekwe, the Episcopal Vicar of the Dunukofia region, who represented the Archbishop of the Onitsha Archdiocese, His Grace, Valerian Maduka Okeke. The Holy Mass set a reflective and grateful tone for the day as the congregation thanked God for the growth and achievements of the college over the past 25 years.
During the Mass, Fr. Atanasius Ironkwe, HFFBY, delivered a thought-provoking homily in which he praised the college for its commitment to academic excellence and moral discipline while encouraging the students to remain focused and diligent in their studies in order to build a brighter future.
The Principal of the College, Sr. Clementina Wusaru Oti, in her address, highlighted the unique educational philosophy that distinguishes Dominican Sisters’ College. According to her, the school is committed to the holistic formation of students, anchored on the “3H” model; the formation of the Head (intellect), Heart (will), and Hands (skills). She explained that the newly inaugurated Entrepreneurship Building and Workshop was designed to strengthen this philosophy by equipping students with practical skills that is preparing them for real-life challenges and entrepreneurial opportunities. “The goal of Dominican Sisters’ College is not only to produce academically sound students but also morally upright and skillful young people who can contribute meaningfully to the society,” she stated. While commending the hardwork of her predecessors, who piloted the affairs of the college and the management team, past and present as well as the state government for their encouragement, she assured that with God on our side, the College will continue to excel. God bless the founding Mothers of this great College!
Sr. Viviana Sisack, the Prioress General of the Congregation was ably represented by Sr. Ijeoma Maryassumpta Okoye, her Delegate in Nigeria. She read her goodwill message and presented the pergament of Pope Leo XIV’s special blessing for the Jubilee celebration.
The ceremony also featured the recognition and honouring of distinguished Nigerians who have supported the academic vision and development of the college over the years. Their contributions were acknowledged as instrumental to the growth and success of the institution.
Adding colour and excitement to the celebration were vibrant cultural displays, drama performances, and musical renditions presented by the students. The performances showcased the creativity, talent, and cultural pride of the students while entertaining guests who filled the pavilion.
Parents, old students, and friends of the college expressed joy at the progress the institution has made over the past 25 years, noting that the new entrepreneurship facility would further strengthen the quality of education offered by the school.
As Dominican Sisters’ College celebrates this important milestone, the institution looks ahead with renewed commitment to nurturing future leaders through academic excellence, moral integrity, and practical skills development.
The silver jubilee celebration not only honoured the past achievements of the College but also reaffirmed its vision of shaping well-rounded individuals prepared to make meaningful contributions to society.
