PROVINCE OF LATIN AMERICA
“NUESTRA SEÑORA DE GUADALUPE

The first Sisters of Mother Gérine arrived in Latin America in March 1874: Sr. Caterina Attanè together with five novices left Genoa and arrived in Uruguay, in Montevideo. Unfortunately, Sr. Caterina died a few months later. In the same year – in November – five French Sisters from the community of Pau (France) also arrived in Montevideo and opened the first community there.
The following year, in 1875, three sisters left Uruguay for Argentine at the invitation of Father Jesús Estevez, Prior of the Dominicans friars, to take charge of an orphanage in Buenos Aires; in the following years, very quickly, other communities opened in Argentina; the sisters were requested above all in the educational field, but not only.

The Latin American Province “Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe” was established in 2006, after having been vice-province for several years.
Today, it is composed of five communities present in three different countries: three communities in Argentina, in Buenos Aires, Santiago del Estero and Mar del Plata; one community in Brazil, in Goiania and one community in Peru, in Paramonga.
The communities are mainly present in suburban areas, where the sisters are able to share their life and faith with the people in their daily lives.

The sisters in Latin American also run four educational institutions, three of which in Argentina:
Colegio “Santa Rosa de Lima “ in La Consulta- Mendoza,
Istituto Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Buenos Aires,
Instituto “Santa Rosa de Lima” (San Juan), and one in Uruguay, Colegio y Liceo “Santo Domingo” de Montevideo.

In Mar del Plata, the sisters manage a residential care home for non-self-sufficient elderly people: Istituto “Santa Catalina de Siena”.
