DELEGATION OF UGANDA
“OUR LADY QUEEN OF MARTYRS”

The first foundation in Uganda dates back to 1993, when the first sisters arrived in the village of Kakumiro to place themselves at the service of the parish and the people.
Among them there was also Sr. Monica Loyarte, an Argentine sister, who killed a few months after her arrival in Uganda, on 25 February 1994, during an ambush carried out by bandits.

In March 2025, “Our Lady Queen of Ugandan Martyrs” Delegation was established in Uganda. It currently made up of three communities and 21 sisters.
In Uganda we are present in Kakumiro, in the Diocese of Hoima; the first sisters arrived in this village where they immediately opened a sewing school for young women.
Today, the community runs the “Mother Gérine Vocational Institute” and a tailoring workshop that provides employment for women of the village producing school uniforms and liturgical vestments for the diocese and beyond.
Providing education in a rural and poor area like Kakumiro, means trying to promote the future of young people by offering them education and skills that enable them to build a dignified life.
The second community in order of foundation is located in Namugongo about 40 minutes from the capital city, Kampala, within the Archdiocese of Kampala.
The community is currently a formation house for postulants. Due to its proximity to the Shrine of the Ugandan Martyrs, the community also welcomes the thousands of pilgrims who visit the shrine each year on 3 June for the feast of the Martyrs, as well as those who come throughout the year.
The latest community, opened in 2022, is located in Omwitagi in the Diocese of Mbarara, within parish of Ishongororo, near the border with Rwanda. The sisters live in the village, among the people accompanying children, young people, the elderly, the sick, and families. They serve in diocesan schools, through teaching and participate actively in parish life, promoting the deepening of faith and paying particular attention to women and children in situations of difficulty.
Some sisters – according to their specific skills – also offer programs of formation and spiritual accompaniment to those who request them
