INTERNATIONAL NOVITIATE OF AFRICA

The community of the International African Novitiate for Nigeria and Uganda was established in 2015 in response to the formation needs of the two entities.
From the beginning, Nigeria was chosen as the location of the community initially in the city of Sangotedo, in Lagos State.
Over time, however, this location changed in ways that no longer met the original formative criteria.
Consequently, in 2023 it was decided to move the community to a more suitable place.
Since December 2023, the African Novitiate community has been located in Ibadan, approximately two hours by car from the capital.
The community is composed of four sisters, two from the Delegation of Nigeria and two from the Delegation of Uganda, including the Novice Mistress and it welcomes novices from both Delegations.
The Novice Mistress is primarily responsible for the formation journey of the young women. However, each sister in the community – at different levels – is involved in the formative task and supports the Novice Mistress.
In Ibadan novices are able to participate in the Inter-congregational Novitiate Course, held annually from October to June, and they carry out apostolic service in St Dominic Parish and in the surrounding out-stations of the area. The Congregation’s hospital in Ibadan also provides an important space for service and formation.
The community of the International Novitiate of Africa – like all formation communities – is a privileged place of the Congregation; in fact, the sisters of the community are called daily to listen attentively to the charism of Mother Gérine and to transmit it to the new generations, primarily through the witness of their personal and community life.
