CARCASSONNE

COMMUNITY DEPENDENT ON THE GENERAL GOVERNMENT

Carcassonne is a small city in the south of France, well know as a tourist destination for its famous Cité Médiévale (Medieval City). It is also especially dear to our Congregation, as the foundation in Carcassonne was one of our earliest. It was here that our a Mother Gérine

Over time, our presence in the city has been almost uninterrupted up to the present day. This presence has been characterized by careful attention to the evolution of society and to the effects it has on the most fragile and needy people, without forgetting that every Dominican community is called to bear witness—through each of its members—that “living fraternity is possible” and that the source of this Love is offered to all in Jesus Christ.
Today, our community is located in a neighborhood that hosts a foreign population with a Muslim majority.
The community is made up of four sisters from three different countries, France, Pakistan and Nigeria, involved in different areas of the pastoral life of the city and also of the Diocese:
– collaboration with the Knights of Malta to help homeless people;
– accompaniment and visits to the sick;
– accompaniment of the «Foi et Lumière» movement for persons with disabilitie;
– spiritual accompaniment for those who request it;
– participation in the ecumenical prayer group in the diocese;
– human and Christian formation in primary school and in the “Saint Jean d’Arc” College;
– catechism in the parish.
